The Role of Computers in Math Education

Introduction

Era of the present development of technology affect every field of life. Aspects of the technology has been incorporated in school curricula as a resource to the seed business and the interests and foster a positive attitude towards the development of technology. Culture of schooling should be changed rather than something based on the memory of that, berpemikiran, creative, loving and using the latest technology (KPM, 1997). Top this reason the kingdom through the Ministry of Education, eager to mengujudkan School gus Bestari which once filled the agenda of the act, and perlaksanaan corridor Raya Multimedia (Multimedia Super Corridor or MSC). Perlaksanaan Sekolah Bestari akan open-space area to the extent that computer technology will allow fleksibiliti built and diversity in the education system. The atmosphere will reduce the chasm between them that opportunity and are trying to use the latest technology in the home, with those who are less (KPM, 1997)

Teaching Berbantukan Computers

The changes are in the world of education now will change the course contents and curriculum of each form of fiction subjects (Jamaludin, 1989; Nik Azis, 1989). Mathematics curriculum can not run away from the flow of this technology

(Munirah & Fatimah, 1995; KDP, 1993; Nik Azis, 1989). Computer education in the curriculum involves three important roles (Nik Azis, 1989);

1. Perisian learning about computers, computer perkakasan and pengaturcaraan

2. The use of computers to process data and menyelenggara

- Data processing investigations

- Word processing

3.Penggunaan computer to help the process of teaching and learning

- The students

- Teaching and learning computer berbantukan (PPBK).

Teaching and learning computer berbantukan (PPBK) is aturcara computer techniques using artificial brains to help someone learn (Jamaluddin, 1989). Mikrokomputer used to menyelenggara teaching activity with berpandu to the program established by the author perisian. Students interact with a computer program or through a terminal perisian (Nik Azis, 1989).

In teaching computer berbantukan (Cai), the computer can be considered as a tutor or a teacher. In the process of teaching in a real room darjah, teachers berperanan as teacher (instructor), torch (explaner) and pemudahcara (Facilitator). All this role may be taken over by the computer in Cai (Abd. Rahman, 1995). Teaching berbantukan involving computer tutorial system, games and simulations in addition to the frequent activity latih (PPK, 1993; Jamaludin, 1989).
